Everyone makes mistakes, it's part of our nature. But no slip ruins your life. Okay, let me correct myself. Not all slips ruin your life. I learned this last summer when the "love of my life" robbed me. And not just as you may think, he stole most of my stuff.
I should have known from the start that he was just pretending to be nice and that he didn't love me, he loved my money. Oh, how foolish I was! I was blinded by love, ignoring the obvious red flags.
I was desperate to take revenge on him. He left me with nothing but an empty apartment and a few of my cheaper clothes, but I'm probably going to be homeless soon because with no money I can't pay the upcoming rent.
I needed to do something, so I decided to report my ex to the police. Well, it didn't go according to my plan since I was rejected because of my missing ID. I was told that without it they couldn't check my identity. Great. I was hopeless and I didn't know what to do.
While I was walking out of the police station with my head hanging low, a lady about my age, whom I could see was an officer judging by her uniform and badges, rushed over to me. She told me that she could help. She introduced herself as Amara and invited me to a café after her shift.
I had been sitting at a cozy café in the heart of the town for about 25 minutes now when Amara burst in the doors, her eyes frantically searching for me. I waved towards her and thankfully she noticed me, hurriedly coming towards me. With a nervous smile, Amara apologized for being so late, saying that she had to stay overtime to resolve some papers. I assured her that it was no big deal and that I was already grateful that she wanted to help me in the first place. With a relieved face she signaled for a waiter and we both ordered some beverages.
While sipping our drinks Amara told me that she wanted to help me since she experienced something similar with her ex-boyfriend and that she pitied me for being so unfortunate. She planned that since she was one of the higher-up officers, she could search for my ex in the database and track him down. After this, I could confront him for stealing my stuff and that she would step in if things got rough. I was immensely thankful for her, and we agreed to carry out our plan the next day. We stayed an hour or so after this at the café, then we said our goodbyes and went home.
The next day Amara fulfilled her promise and we found out that my ex-lover was staying 70 kilometers away from the city. We headed there by car and as we arrived, he was just heading out of a house that I assumed was his. I quickly got out of the vehicle and when he noticed me he tried to run, but Amara's warning stopped him. Amara told him that we could either talk about things nicely inside or he could be arrested at the place for going against a police officer. He chose the former option and invited us to his house.
During our conversation, he told us that he had already sold my stuff and spent my money, but he still had my ID and Credit Cards with little to no money on them. We agreed on him giving my ID and cards back and giving me my money back gradually over months so that he didn't get arrested. He accepted the offer and Amara and I went home.
On the way home, she offered me to live with her until I got back on my feet. I wanted to decline, but she insisted and told me she had a spare room and would like some company since she was lonely. I thanked her once again and we chatted about lots of topics for the rest of the ride.
I guess that this was the story of my revenge on a robber ex-boyfriend and also the story of how I made a genuine friend for life. I think that I might get into police training to work on Amara's side to help others just like she did for me.
