A long, long time ago, when everyone had been a fish, there lived a hunter. He often asked himself why he was the only person on the planet. When the other humans had started evolving, he finally understood that he was immortal. Then how and why was he created?
As time passed, people became more intelligent, they started founding cities.
Somewhere in the Middle Ages, the immortal realized that everyone had a companion, except for him. He wanted someone to love, too. He observed the mortals. The first thing they told each other when they met was their names. He noticed that he had never been named. After some time, he came up with the perfect name: Alexander. It sounded majestic to him and it could have been shortened to a fabulous nickname.
Alexander started looking for the perfect girl, however, he got disappointed fairly quickly. Every female he approached said:
“Look, you are an extraordinarily handsome and kind man, on the other hand, you can’t age nor die. People will eventually think that I am your mother.”
Alex thought that no mortal would fall in love with him. Then he met someone. She was absolutely gorgeous. Her red hair reflected the sunrays, one could see the pureness of her soul through her brown eyes. Alexander just stared at her, his mind stopped working.
The girl noticed his struggle.
“Greetings! Can I help you with anything?”
“You are incredibly beautiful…”
After an awkward conversation Alexander started bringing her flowers. Soon, the girl fell in love with him, and they got married. They lived happily for over 60 years, then the wife died. Alexander swore that he would never love any other woman.
Nine decades or more later, he saw a girl that looked exactly like her formal wife. He couldn’t believe his eyes. His heart started beating faster and faster: “She is alive!”
“Hello! I don’t know if you remember me…”
“I am very sorry, I do not.” the woman shook her head. “Wait… I think I actually do! I can’t talk right now, but could we meet here at six?”
Alexander had never been happier. All he could think about was meeting her love again. Close to the appointed time, he was getting nervous. What if the woman just hadn’t wanted to be rude? However, when he saw her, there was no doubt that she knew who he was.
“Alexander!” She hugged him.
“Hope, my love! It warms my heart to see you again.”
“How long have you been waiting?”
“Decades. Still, I would wait as long as I have to, to see you over and over again.”
And so he did. Sixty years with, ninety without her. Hope always found her way back to him.
